How many times have we heard– “It’s better to be overdressed than underdressed.” or “Pain is beauty.” Over the weekend, during my brother’s graduation I kept thinking to myself, “who in the world made up these ridiculous standards and why am I using them to justify my outfit?” It could’ve been the mile-long walk to and from the parking lot, the grassy area where graduation was held at, or simply the early traces of SoCal summer that instantly made me regret what I walked out of my house in.
Then speech after speech we heard a recurring theme of: Life is about taking risks and rising above failure. Lesson learned here? Don’t wear all black and Louboutin-inspired sky-highs to a summer graduation. (Lawyered.)
