“Remember that there are fallow periods, times where rest and happiness are more important than being the most productive or the fastest. [...] The great world will keep on spinning. Let it. Don’t be afraid, now and then, to tune out all of the noise and just stand there, perfectly still.”
-Rian, Truth and Cake
If anyone would have ever asked me last year what I thought blogging entailed, I probably would have answered with a smirk– posting pictures, displaying personal likes and interests, and sharing my life stories ambiguously. Nothing to it, right? I still find some truth in everything I listed about blogging, but after a whole year of experimentation I also realize that 1) I had no idea what I was really getting myself into. And 2) I still have no clue what I’m doing, most times.
Here’s what I’ve learned so far: blogging involves an incredible amount of work and constant planning to maintain, and over time, evolves with the blogger’s own personal changes. There are times when inspiration and posts flow easily and abundantly, while there are other times when writer’s block or keeping up with life outside of the blog gets in the way.
I always believed in keeping things constantly moving in order to maintain balance. But what happens when the constant moving veers you off course?
I’ve spent the last month working a few a extra shifts, celebrating my recent engagement to Bryan with our loved ones, diving right into wedding planning, unpacking and recuperating from endless destinations, and just simply living. It’s been amazing and exhausting at the same time, with thoughts of photographing and writing constantly nagging me in the back of my mind. Sadly, I’ve even played with the idea of retiring this journal.
But then I realized that these thoughts and feelings are temporary, normal, and will probably come and go more often than I’d like. Once again I’m entering a new chapter in my life, and my blog should too.
So lets start over, shall we? My name is Kate and I’m a twenty-something girl from Southern California. I’m a full-time Registered Nurse with an obsession for words, photographs, clothing, and exploring new places and people. In less than a year I will be marrying my best friend, Bryan, the man behind the camera lens. I’m nowhere close to a “professional” blogger, but I’ve got pages filled with ideas and a heart full of passion and determination. Whatever adventure lies ahead, I will be as ready as I’ll ever be. Come along for the ride, and let’s chat!
